What is Self-Confidence?
Self-confident people will often describe themselves as having a positive view/ opinion of themselves, they accept who they are, they trust themselves and will feel like they have a sense of control in their lives. Whilst also being able to set realistic expectations, handle criticism and communicate assertively.
Despite many people appearing to put on a face of confidence, a recent social media poll I carried out revealed 63% of participants described themselves as unconfident. Notably, career, relationships and social events were the key areas lacking in self-confidence with some participants recognising it was affecting their everyday lives.
So, what are the signs that you might be lacking self-confidence?
Throughout my practice as a hypnotherapist in Amsterdam and online, most people that come to me for help with their lack of self-confidence often relate to a number, if not all of these statements.
· I always talk negatively and critically about myself
· I often avoid things / confrontations
· I don’t know how to receive a compliment and feel uncomfortable when I do so
· I don’t trust my own judgement and always seek guidance from others
· I lack boundaries
· I often look for approval from others
Even though many people state they lack in self-confidence and can see the negative impact that it is having on their lives, they’re unable to identify what’s causing it and don’t know how to step into a more confident version of themselves.
